Dada in a nutshell

The basics are easy. Here's Dada in a nutshell:

1. Skill? Unimportant

2. Technology? Very important. Dadaists push the boundaries of what's possible as part of a multi-generational campaign to overthrow reason, rationality, ethics, and all other forms of logic. These things are seen as restrictive and oppressive.

3. Capitalism? Fuck capitalism

4. Dadaists know nothing because Dada is nothing, it is a revolutionary philosophy that aims to achieve nothing, and that expects nothing. Additionally, Nothing is also the worthiness of critiques of Dada.

5. Expressionism (any and all "human expression" arguments, up to and including "it has no soul!")? irrelevant, art is a tool for social and political change. The job of art is to speak to your times and the way you see the world. You cannot control how art makes someone else feel.

6. Randomness and lacking of intention? Good things actually! Dada is in large part the practice of random unplanned art, including AI and any future technologies that fit the bill.

7. Disagreement with a Dadaist makes you a Dadaist. Damned dirty Dadaists.

8. Take the world seriously, but yourself less so.

The contradictions are unavoidable

Dada is about subverting norms in the art world. It's about standing up to gatekeepers as well as authority and affecting social change through hard criticism and whimsy.

The contradictions are unavoidable.
