My reading of Dada

People get confused with my weird thesis on Dada. I actively research this stuff, and like everything I do, I make it way more difficult than it has to be.

So here's the TLDR on Dada:

* Dada is a lot of things to a lot of people and interpretations vary. There is no consensus on how to apply Dada to the modern context.

The way I do it is with my religious toolbelt: literalism, interpreting the body of manifestos as a unified work.

All of 391 and its authors! (Yep, 391 is my Talmud)

* The most important thing to remember about it is that Dada is a big sloppy middle finger to the unsolicited unwanted commentary of the art world.

* Dada rejects moral arguments. Full stop.

* Dada rejects all process arguments, because process arguments are bullshit.

* Dada says, "that's mine now."

* The Dadaist method can be used to dismantle any art related argument. You can argue against it, but you can't win with smugness. Learn the method.

* It's a philosophy of appropriation that validates pretty much everything ever made with AI. Especially since the backlash.

The backlash against AI does something super interesting to Dadaist philosophy.

You see, up until now, you made rebel art with aesthetic choices. Now, you make rebel art with your tool choices, regardless of aesthetics.

And that means Dada becomes accessible to everyone. Congratulations, no matter what you do with AI or how, you are now a subversive artist.

That is the gift of the incumbent art community.

Through their own stupidity, they have given Dada to everyone, and by themselves, with no input from me, made it more relevant than it's ever been.

Welcome to the counter-culture!
I love you all
